Why we offer SiteShield & Host packages now…
Why is hosting included?
Every website needs a place to “live” on the internet. That’s what hosting is. You can pay Peppermint to host it, or you can pay another company, but no matter, a website must have a monthly hosting service.
We’re including hosting in our packages because I’ve experienced frustration with other hosting company policies, settings, and sales ethics. I’d love if all my clients hosted through Peppermint so it could be far easier to service their accounts. Of course, you can host anywhere. I’ll still do all I can to help you. The cost for your SiteShield package remains the same whether you use Peppermint hosting or not.
Why do you need SiteShield?
Your website goes down and you have no idea how long it’s been offline. Your website gets hacked and tons of awful malware needs to be removed. A standard update ruins your website and you need it restored. Your hosting account server completely crashes and you lose everything.
These scenarios all happen to websites owners around the world, and have happened to my clients.
Hackers are more prevalent than ever. They get in when they find insecure passwords, security loopholes in software, and other access points. Our monitoring shows that nearly every website is being hammered by hackers whether you know it or not. Whether they get in or not is greatly up to you.
Your WordPress website’s functionality is expanded with plugins–small software packages created by a developer and sold/or given away as an addon to WordPress. These all need to be updated regularly as the developers are always making updates to keep them more secure from hackers. WordPress developers themselves do the same thing.
Our SiteShield service does not guarantee that you won’t be hacked. But it does greatly reduce the odds. This means your website can continue to serve you and your customers with less potential downtime, loss of data, loss of search engine rankings, and the huge problems that come with dealing with a hacked site.
Backups will be stored offsite in Amazon S3 storage. This keeps hackers out of your backups and also allows for re-installing the website should the entire server your website is hosted on crash. (And yes, that has happened to one of our clients resulting in us needing to completely rebuild his website because he had no externally stored backup.)
I’ve added a few other options to our SiteShield packages to help make owning your website easier and more useful. I think you’ll appreciate them! I look forward to continuing to serve you and help you keep looking good online!
